November 9th from 5-7:30pm
Wax Flower Modeling Workshop- Reviving a Forgotten Victorian Art
Step into the world of 19th-century parlor craft in this hands-on workshop that brings back the lost Victorian art of wax flower modeling.
Using vibrantly colored wax sheets, you’ll learn to cut, shape, and sculpt delicate petals and leaves by hand, assembling intricate flowers that feel both lifelike and dreamlike. This once-popular pastime was a favorite in Victorian homes, used to create lasting botanical displays, often showcased under glass cloches, alongside taxidermy, or within cabinets of curiosity. Led by wax artist Heather O'Shaughnessy.
In this class, you’ll:
- Explore the history and technique of traditional wax flower making
- Handcraft your own wax flowers using specialized tools
- Arrange your finished piece for display
Perfect for artists, makers, collectors, or anyone drawn to the strange and beautiful.
All materials provided.
Workshop will take place at Into the Feral located at 2914 W Belmont Ave, Chicago IL 60618
