Temperance is a card about finding balance in the complexity of our multi- faceted existence. This card is the alchemy of blending dualities to forge something new. Alchemizing or tempering of these multiplicities to find a harmonious middle ground allows us to honor and step into the true fullness of our being and personal sovereignty.
In thinking about the Temperance card and taking its Sagittarius/ Jupiter astrological correspondences into consideration, I created a blend reminiscent of a spiced chia. The herbs and spices work together to offer restoration and resilience.
Herbal Tea Ingredients: Lemon Balm, Cinnamon chips, Cardamom, Star Anise, Ginger, Clove, Orange, and Sage.
*Caffeine free. The herbs and spices work together to soothe the mind, aid in digestion and circulation and help support resilience.
For the Temperance collaboration, I called on fellow herbalist and potion maker Karena of Lady K's Apotheca to make an intention oil. Karena chose ingredients to be evocative of a mighty oak tree (Jupiter, Sagittarius’ ruler) and the plants in its understory. Each ingredient holds a purpose and planetary significance in the larger picture of her interpretation of the Temperance card. Karena’s vision has to do with the definition of Temperance as it relates to metallurgy. When we temper a sword is must be heated, put under pressure, hammered and molded. Next though, it must be tempered and cooled in water. This reflects a fine balance, as reflected in the imagery of this card. Karena envisions this oil as an application of that process to a person, Perfect for helping you to find your purpose, expand your vision and aligning with the Sagittarius season.
Oil Ingredients: Sunflower oil, Sage, Oak leaves, Nettle, Lemon Balm, Juniper Berries, and Mugwort.
